The Solano Stroll is around the corner!

Every year, on the second Sunday in September, Solano Avenue is transformed into a river of laughing, singing, dancing, snacking and shopping people. For almost forty years, the merchants, restaurants, and professionals of Solano, as well as the twin cities of Albany and Berkeley CA, have hosted the Solano Avenue Stroll, the East Bay’s largest street festival. The event starts at 10 a.m. and kicks off with a parade! Booths include dozens of entertainers, 50 food booths, 150 juried arts and crafters, state of the art mechanical rides, and 150 community non-profit and government organizations. (more…)

Hosting and website design: You get what you pay for.

Here’s a story about a new T324 client, who we will call Really Nice Tiny NonProfit Company.

We received an emergency call from RNTNPC, whose website had gone completely down.low-cost hosting risks They had absolutely no way to access it, as the low-cost web designer they used had vanished.

Their low-cost hosting company had the designer’s contact info, so they were not notified when the host decided they were overusing resources and took their site down. (more…)

Who do you trust more, Google, Apple or Microsoft?

On Sunday night I was at dinner with a long-time Apple employee, a SalesForce employee, a “white-hat” hacker and a sys-admin for a Y-Combinator startup.trust google

The topic of trust in the major technology players such as Google came up.

Trust in a business or consumer relationship (which is what our relationships with technology are, despite the way we anthropomorphize them) is based on reliable delivery of a product and value for money spent. (more…)
